Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis
Quite a touching story, especially to those who have experienced the hardest part of life in rural areas. Vance appears to be ready to take us on an adventure of his own life as he grew up amidst unbearable situations. In this book, he writes about the financial struggles that worsened every area of his life. Though he grew up in Middletown, Ohio, he has his roots in Breathitt County, Kentucky.
Among the things he encountered, was his mother’s drug addictions and unstable behaviour. Living with his grandparents wasn’t also that interesting due to their alcoholism. After his grandparents stabilised, they became his guardians. After a struggle, Vance joined Ohio State University and Yale Law School.
With that, Vance puts forward many questions regarding his family responsibility towards him and people for their own bad luck. He goes on to show the economic insecurity that many faces and the social rot that is seen today
